MTN Ghana has distributed 700 baby hampers to mothers who gave birth on Christmas Day across the country, as part of its annual Christmas tradition of giving back to communities.
Speaking during the distribution at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, the Ashanti, Bono and Bono East Regional Area Manager of MTN, Obed Adu Amankwa, said the initiative is aimed at sharing love, kindness and joy with mothers who deliver on December 25.

“Christmas is not only about decorations and merrymaking. It is a season of giving, sharing love and showing kindness,” he said. “For 14 consecutive years, MTN has supported mothers who give birth on Christmas Day by presenting them with fully loaded baby hampers.”
According to him, out of the 700 hampers being distributed nationwide this year, 310 are allocated to the northern belt, covering the Ashanti Region and the nine regions in Northern Ghana.
He noted that 70 hampers are being distributed in the Ashanti Region alone, with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital being one of the beneficiary facilities.

Mr. Adu Amankwa added that the exercise is also taking place at the Sunyani Regional Hospital, Goaso Regional Hospital, Techiman Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Nalerigu Hospital in the North East Region, and other selected health facilities across the country.
He explained that the initiative reflects MTN’s belief in the African philosophy of Ubuntu, which emphasizes shared humanity and community support.
“We believe in bonding with the communities because they make us who we are. As the Ubuntu proverb says, ‘I am because you are, and you are because of me,’” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Nurse Manager in charge of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Docas Asamoah Nyamekye, commended MTN for its continuous support to mothers during the Christmas period.
She disclosed that 13 babies were delivered at the hospital between December 25 and 26, and expressed appreciation for MTN’s annual gesture, which she said brings relief and encouragement to new mothers.
Mrs. Nyamekye also appealed to the general public and corporate bodies to support mothers who struggle to settle their medical bills, noting that such assistance would greatly improve maternal and neonatal care outcomes.
The MTN Baby Hamper initiative has become a nationwide Christmas tradition, reinforcing the company’s commitment to social responsibility and community development.
