Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed, has called on agencies under the Ministry of the Interior to adopt an open, transparent and strategic approach to performance reviews in order to strengthen security governance and public confidence.
Speaking at the 2025 Annual Performance Review Workshop for agencies under the ministry, held at Ada, the minister said the review process should go beyond routine assessment to become a tool for strategic alignment and improved service delivery.
The workshop, themed “Strengthening Security Governance, Accountability, and Service Delivery through Performance Review and Strategic Alignment,” brought together all agencies operating under the Ministry of the Interior.
Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed highlighted several gains made by the sector over the past year, including stronger inter-agency collaboration, progress in digitisation, and improvements in emergency response systems. He noted that these achievements demonstrate the value of coordinated efforts across agencies.
However, the minister also pointed to persistent challenges confronting the security sector, such as evolving crime trends, increased pressure on border security, and growing public scrutiny over accountability and human rights issues.
He urged heads of agencies to approach the performance review exercise with honesty and strategic focus, stressing that transparency is critical to addressing shortcomings and sustaining public trust.
“The review process should help us strengthen alignment, sharpen coordination, and reaffirm our collective responsibility to deliver security services that inspire public confidence and support national development,” he said.
The workshop was attended by the Deputy Minister for the Interior and the Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, alongside heads and senior officials of the various agencies under the ministry.
