The National House of Chiefs has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ghana’s former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a courageous and compassionate trailblazer whose life was devoted to public service and women’s empowerment.
In an official statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Stephen Owusu, the House noted that Nana Konadu’s death is a great loss not only to her family but to the entire nation.
“Ghana mourns not only a former First Lady but also a trailblazer a woman of courage, conviction, and compassion who dedicated her life to the service of others,” the statement said.
The National House of Chiefs praised Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings for her tireless advocacy for women’s rights and empowerment through the 31st December Women’s Movement.
According to the statement, her work transformed the lives of countless women and children by promoting education, healthcare, and economic independence.
“Her voice and leadership helped shape national conversations on gender equality, social justice, and inclusive development long before these became mainstream causes,” the statement added.
The House also paid tribute to her role as a devoted wife and partner to the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, noting that she provided steadfast counsel and support during a defining era in Ghana’s history.
Her discipline, grace, and deep sense of duty, it said, earned her respect both at home and abroad.
“Ghana has indeed lost a remarkable mother, leader, and stateswoman whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come,” the statement emphasized.
On behalf of the members of the National House of Chiefs and the entire chieftaincy institution, the statement extended heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family and all Ghanaians. It assured the family of the Chiefs’ prayers and support during this difficult period.
“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
