The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched an intensive campaign in Akwatia ahead of the September 2 by-election, which follows the passing of the area’s former Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
The contest is expected to feature Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq of the NDC, and an independent candidate, David Ankomah.
In a statement signed by the party’s Deputy Eastern Regional Secretary, Kwaku Boateng, on Sunday, August 17, the NDC urged members, supporters, and sympathisers to actively join campaign activities in the constituency.
“As we continue in our collective mission to build a better Ghana under the visionary leadership of HE John Mahama, we invite all members, supporters, and sympathisers to join us in actively campaigning for our parliamentary candidate in the upcoming Akwatia by-election,” the statement said.
According to the party, the by-election presents a crucial opportunity to reclaim the Akwatia seat. “Our candidate Bernard Bediako has been chosen to represent the hopes and aspirations of the people of Akwatia, and it is our duty as party members to rally behind him and ensure a resounding victory,” it added.
The NDC has adopted a door-to-door strategy, focusing on community engagements, voter education, and mobilisation. The party leadership expressed confidence that with unity and commitment, it could secure victory in the constituency.
“Victory in Akwatia is within reach – together, we shall deliver it. Your presence, energy, and dedication will inspire hope, energise the campaign, and help secure a decisive win for the NDC,” the statement concluded.
