The leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bono East Region has taken steps to mend relations with Obrempong Danso Abeam II, the Chief of Dromankese in the Nkoranza North Constituency.
This comes after a misunderstanding during Former President John Dramani Mahama’s recent campaign tour, which led to some of the town’s chiefs invoking curses on the NDC and its Flagbearer.
A viral video circulating on social media since Monday evening shows some Traditional Elders of Dromankese expressing their frustration over the former president’s failure to visit the Chief’s Palace during his visit to the area.
The elders, who had waited the entire day for Mahama, perceived the absence as a sign of disrespect and consequently invoked curses on the NDC, its Flagbearer, and any local residents who might consider voting for the party in the upcoming December 7th General Elections.
However, following a meeting on Wednesday between NDC leaders and the Dromankese chiefs at the Palace, Obrempong Danso Abeam II clarified the situation.
He acknowledged that the failure of the former president to meet with him was due to a miscommunication by the event organizers, not an intentional slight or disrespect towards the traditional authorities.
Nana Baffoe Sarkodie, the Bono East Regional Deputy Security Coordinator of the NDC in charge of Operations, led the delegation of the party’s Council of Elders, regional executives, and Nkoranza North Constituency executives to the meeting on behalf of John Mahama. He expressed the party’s gratitude to the chiefs and sought to reassure the community.
In his address, Nana Baffoe Sarkodie urged the people of Nkoranza North, particularly the residents of Dromankese, not to be swayed by the curses invoked, but instead to turn out in large numbers on December 7th to vote for John Mahama and all NDC Parliamentary Candidates.
