The newly constituted Governing Board of the Ghana Refugee Board (GRB) was officially sworn into office today in a ceremony led by the Minister for the Interior Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak.
In his address, the Minister emphasized the crucial role of the Board in safeguarding the welfare and dignity of refugees living in Ghana.
He called on members to work with dedication and unity to ensure that all refugees receive the necessary protection, care, and support.
“The GRB is responsible for managing over 20,000 registered refugees from approximately 40 countries, with the majority originating from Burkina Faso,” the Minister stated.
He urged the Board to uphold principles of transparency, accountability, professionalism, and patriotism in carrying out their mandate.
He further assured the Board of the government’s full support, particularly through the Ministry of the Interior, in facilitating its operations. He described the constitution of the Board as a vital step in enhancing the management of refugee affairs and reinforcing Ghana’s commitment to humanitarian values.
The Chairman of the Board, Joseph Azumah, expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the trust reposed in them.
He pledged the Board’s commitment to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to improve the quality of life for refugees in the country.
The Ghana Refugee Board operates under the Ministry of the Interior and serves as the government agency responsible for all matters relating to refugees in Ghana.
