The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) has reportedly invited the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, to provide evidence to support allegations of the sale of scholarships by some government institutions.
The development was disclosed by the Executive Director of the Scholarship Secretariat, Alexander Asafo-Adjei, in a statement posted on his official Facebook page.
According to him, the invitation follows claims by the former NEIP CEO that certain scholarships were allegedly sold to affiliates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other Ghanaians.
Mr. Asafo-Adjei said he has been reliably informed that the NIB is seeking to establish the veracity of the allegations and has called on Mr. Ofosu Nkansah to substantiate his claims.
He welcomed the move by the investigative body, stressing the need for transparency, accountability and integrity in public administration.
“In the interest of transparency, accountability and sound public administration, I urge the NIB to conduct a thorough investigation and make its findings public,” he stated.
The allegations have generated public interest, particularly in relation to the management and award of government scholarships. The Scholarship Secretariat has in recent months reiterated its commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in the scholarship selection process.
The NIB has not yet officially commented on the matter, but the outcome of the investigation is expected to clarify the allegations and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred.
