The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has refuted claims that it is actively courting renowned social commentator and political activist Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A Plus, to align with the party in Parliament.
This response follows a statement by A Plus on his Facebook page, where he disclosed being at the center of intense political lobbying by Ghana’s two major political parties—the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to A Plus, the NPP, led by Presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has reached out with a proposal for him to align with the party in Parliament.
Among the offers reportedly made is a pledge not to field a candidate for the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 elections if he sides with the NPP.
A Plus further revealed that the NDC, the party he has often expressed an affinity for, has scheduled a meeting with him to discuss a potential partnership.
The meeting, set for 8 a.m. tomorrow, will reportedly play a significant role in determining which political group he will align with.
“I have friends in both the NDC and NPP, but they must understand that I will have to disappoint someone tomorrow,” A Plus stated. “Deep down, my heart leans toward the NDC, but I will ultimately side with whoever has my interest at heart and provides the best offer for me and the people of Gomoa Central.”
NPP Denies Claims
In a swift response, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua denied the party’s involvement in any formal engagement with Kwame A Plus.
He also refuted claims that Kennedy Agyapong or any other individual had been assigned to negotiate with A Plus on behalf of the party.
A Plus at the Center of Political Attention
Kwame A Plus, known for his outspoken nature and advocacy for ordinary Ghanaians, has captured public interest with his candid remarks about the lobbying efforts. His declaration emphasizes his commitment to securing the best deal not only for himself but also for the people of Gomoa Central.
The activist’s statement has fueled speculation in political circles, with many eagerly awaiting the outcome of his meeting with the NDC and whether it will sway his decision.
As the political landscape continues to heat up, Kwame A Plus’s final choice could have significant implications for both parties, particularly in the Effutu Central constituency and beyond.
