The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Minority in Parliament has stated that they are not prepared for any confrontational showdown with the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), when Parliament reconvenes.
Speaking on Ghone TV’s State of Affairs program, monitored by Kumasi mail, Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the NPP will not engage in clashes with their NDC counterparts, even if they occupy the majority side of the house.
“We will not allow ourselves to be drawn into any unnecessary confrontations. Our focus is on protecting our democracy and maintaining peace in the chamber,” Afenyo-Markin stated. “The public, especially reasonable men and women in our society, are watching us. The business community and innocent citizens are counting on us to ensure peace, stability, and the protection of democratic values.”
Afenyo-Markin also urged both sides to work together in the interest of the country, highlighting the importance of dialogue and mutual respect.
He called on the NDC to “smoke the peace pipe” as Parliament resumes its sessions today.
“The National Democratic Congress must understand that we are all working towards a common goal—progress for our nation. There is no need for any dramatic confrontations or what some may call a ‘royal rumble’ in Parliament,” he added.
The Efutu MP reiterated the importance of decorum in the legislative process and assured that the NPP Minority will play its role responsibly to uphold democracy.
