The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will on Saturday January 31, 2026, hold its national presidential primary to elect a flagbearer to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
A total of thirty six thousands (36,000) delegates are expected to vote in this election. Five candidates are contesting the party’s top position.
They are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong; former Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum; former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong; and businessman and former Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
In the Ashanti Region, voting will take place across 47 constituencies, with delegates in each constituency expected to vote at a designated polling centre.
However, constituencies with more than 1,000 delegates including Kwadaso, Asawase, Asante Bekwai and Bantama will operate multiple voting centres located at the same venue to ensure a smooth and orderly process.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region says it is fully prepared to provide security at all polling centres to guarantee a peaceful exercise.
The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Godwin Ahianyor, warned that any attempt to disrupt the electoral process would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
He added that the police would not tolerate vigilante activities at any polling centre.
Party officials and security agencies have urged delegates to conduct themselves peacefully to ensure a credible and successful primary.
