The National Tenants’ Union of Ghana has expressed disappointment with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Housing Manifesto, criticizing it for containing unfulfilled promises and recycled proposals.
The union highlighted that past pledges, such as the National Rental Assistance Scheme (NARAS), have not been adequately funded or implemented, with only GHC 19 million disbursed to 1,492 beneficiaries as of February 2024.
Additionally, the pricing of new housing units under the Pokuase project raises concerns about affordability. The union calls for a suspension of NARAS for a comprehensive review, citing the NPP’s failure to establish key housing institutions and pass relevant legislation.
