The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has defended the party’s decision to hold its presidential primary ahead of other executive elections, describing it as a strategic move to address internal challenges and position the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Hello FM, in an interview monitored by Kumasimail, Mr. Kodua explained that the decision forms part of the party’s broader strategy to restructure and strengthen its base ahead of the next major polls.
“Our decision to elect the party’s flagbearer before other executive positions is part of our long-term strategy to win the 2028 general elections,” he stated.
Addressing concerns raised by some party members, he acknowledged the discomfort that change can bring but remained optimistic that the rationale behind the decision would be appreciated in due time.
“I’m aware of the commentary surrounding the national decision. As human beings, we naturally resist change, so it’s normal for people to initially oppose it. However, I am confident that with time, everyone will understand the importance of this shift,” he said.
Mr. Kodua urged all party members to rally behind the decision, emphasizing that unity and internal restructuring are critical as the party prepares for a return to power.
