In a rare display of respect across party lines, Nana Obiri Boahen, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed admiration for the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah.
However, he also voiced concerns about Asiedu-Nketiah’s rhetoric, which he believes could potentially destabilize the country.
Speaking on Wontumi TV, Nana Obiri Boahen praised Asiedu-Nketiah for his academic achievements and political experience. “I have immense respect for Asiedu-Nketiah’s political acumen. He is knowledgeable academically, and I even refer to him as ‘senior’ because he was in his final year at the University of Ghana when I was just beginning my studies. He holds an MBSc in Administration,” Obiri Boahen remarked.
Despite this respect, Obiri Boahen criticized the NDC Chairman for what he described as reckless talk. He warned that such language, especially as the December 7 polls approach, could undermine the country’s stability.
“Why do you use filthy words to describe your political opponent?” he questioned, urging Asiedu-Nketiah to be more mindful of his words in the politically charged environment.
The comments by Nana Obiri Boahen reflect the delicate balance in Ghanaian politics, where respect for political experience is often juxtaposed with concerns about the impact of inflammatory rhetoric on national peace and stability.
