Kumasi-based Hello FM presenter and host of the political talk show Kokrokoo, King Edward, has called for the immediate resignation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Speaking on the station’s Saturday edition of Akoko Abon, King Edward questioned why the minister who was once outspoken in criticizing former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s foreign travels as wasteful spending of taxpayers’ money on rented private jets has remained silent over a similar development involving the current administration.
Referencing the recent return of Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang from medical leave aboard in a rented private jet, King Edward, popularly known as “ King Edward The Slave” in Kumasi, revisited previous comments made by Okudzeto Ablakwa during his time in opposition.
Okudzeto Ablakwa was quoted on Asempa FM as saying “The next NDC government will not waste public tax money on lavish and fanciful trips by renting private jets. If this ever happens under our government, I will resign. What I’m doing is based on personal principle—not because I dislike President Nana Akufo-Addo. The public purse must be protected. I’ve done it before, and I will do it again. Don’t forget, I resigned from the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.”
Based on this statement, King Edward argued that the Foreign Affairs Minister must now “walk the talk” by stepping down from his position to uphold his own standards and public commitment.
“People must stand by their words. I think Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa must resign. The audio is clear. That’s the only way we can continue to take him seriously,” the broadcaster asserted.
