The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Constituency, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has sparked controversy with explosive allegations on social media.
In a Facebook post, the MP claimed that over 500 supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were sent to VFS, a company that handles UK visa applications, under the pretense of attending a “Unity Match” football event involving teams from Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.
The MP stressed that it is alleged that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation is facilitating these applications, describing the operation as a “well-coordinated visa racketeering scheme masked as sports tourism.”
The legislator, in a post on his official Facebook page, promised that further details would follow soon.
This development comes amid ongoing concerns about visa fraud in Ghana.
In recent years, several high-profile cases have surfaced, including incidents where Members of Parliament and other officials were accused of abusing diplomatic privileges to assist individuals in obtaining visas or overstaying their welcome abroad.
Some MPs have faced 10-year bans from the UK for such violations.
