The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has commenced investigations into alleged vote buying, vote selling and the sources of funding linked to recent political party primaries held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a public notice issued on Sunday, the OSP said it had begun investigations into the NPP presidential primaries conducted on Jan. 31, 2026.
The office further announced that it commenced real-time investigations on Feb. 7, 2026, into the NDC parliamentary primaries held in the Ayawaso East constituency.
According to the OSP, the investigations are focused on allegations of vote buying, vote selling and the financing of the alleged corrupt activities connected to the primaries.
The OSP disclosed that during the conduct of the NDC parliamentary primaries in Ayawaso East on Feb. 7, one of the candidates, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, allegedly abetted thugs to physically attack an officer of the OSP.
The officer was said to be serving an investigative directive on the candidate in relation to allegations of vote buying and vote selling.
As a result of the incident, the OSP said it has opened a separate investigation into the alleged assault of an authorised officer who was performing official duties in connection with the matter involving Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office reminded the public that Ghanaian law prohibits corrupt practices in relation to public elections, noting that vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, threats of violence and acts of violence constitute serious criminal offences.
The OSP reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law and holding individuals accountable for electoral-related corruption. The public notice was dated Feb. 8, 2026.
