The Ghana Police Service has debunked widely circulating rumours claiming that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has passed away.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Service described the reports as “false” and urged the public to disregard them.
According to the statement, the IGP is “alive and well and going about his duties as expected,” contrary to the online speculation that prompted concern among officers and members of the public.
The Police Service further cautioned individuals responsible for spreading what it termed “malicious, insensitive and reckless claims,” stressing that the dissemination of disinformation is an offence under Ghanaian law.
The statement added that those behind the rumours will be traced and prosecuted when identified.
The Service called on the general public, including officers, family members and loved ones of the IGP, to ignore the misinformation and rely on official communication channels for verified updates.
