President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Dubai to participate in the 2026 World Governments Summit, a major international forum that brings together global leaders to discuss the future of governance and public policy.
President Mahama arrived in the early hours of Monday, February 2, and was received by the UAE Minister of State, His Excellency Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan.
The President travelled aboard an aircraft provided by the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The aircraft conveyed President Mahama from Accra to Dubai and is scheduled to continue onward to Lusaka after the summit.
The World Governments Summit, being held at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, is themed “Shaping Future Governments.” The annual gathering serves as a global platform for governments, international organisations, private sector leaders, and policy experts to exchange ideas on governance, innovation, and solutions to pressing global challenges.
This year’s summit agenda is organised around five key pillars: global governance and effective leadership; societal wellbeing and capacity building; economic prosperity and emerging opportunities; urban futures and evolving demographics; and future realities and next frontiers.
Several world leaders and senior international officials are participating in the summit, including President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, President Daniel Noboa of Ecuador, President Guy Parmelin of the Swiss Confederation, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Also attending are Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, and Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Al Budaiwi, among others.
Discussions at the summit are expected to influence global policy debates and highlight innovations that could shape governance systems and societies in the years ahead.
