With just over three months left before the general election, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to change its tactics and invest in grassroots campaigns rather than relying on large-scale rallies.
According to Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, rallies may energize party members but do not significantly increase electoral numbers.
He emphasized the need to strengthen grassroots activities, including:
1. Reconciliation Committees: Properly resource these committees to bring together factions within constituencies.
2. Constituency and Polling Station Committees: Ensure these groups work tirelessly to secure every potential vote.
3. Regional Campaign Teams: Provide adequate support for these teams to perform their supervisory duties effectively.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi believes the period for large-scale rallies is over and that members should be empowered to work effectively at the grassroots level. He suggests that the Bawumia-Napo ticket, along with Parliamentary Candidates, should reach out to even the smallest communities, similar to President Kufuor’s approach.
The professor’s advice comes as the NPP gears up for the December elections, and his words may resonate with party members looking for a winning strategy.
