Internal disunity among Ahanta chiefs, Asafo groups, and family heads continues to pose significant challenges to the development of the Western Region, despite Ahanta’s strategic location as the region’s gateway.
Ongoing conflicts among these groups have consistently hampered progress, and one such conflict has now drawn the attention of the Royal Anona family of Busua, the lineage of the Ahanta overlord, Otumfuo Baidoe Bonsoe XV.
At the center of the dispute is Samuel Nana Antwi, who is accused of falsely claiming to be the successor to the Ahanta overlord. The Royal Anona family is urging the public to refrain from recognizing or engaging with him in any capacity.
During a press briefing held in Busua, Western Region, the family’s lawyer, Capt. Nkrabeah Effah Dartey (Rtd), raised concerns over the lack of action on a petition and interlocutory injunction filed against Samuel Nana Antwi.
The injunction, submitted through the Registrar of the House of Chiefs, has reportedly not yet been served on the alleged imposter, raising questions about the delay.
Felix Nana Nimako, the spokesperson for the Royal Anona family, used the occasion to extend an apology to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the unruly behavior of Samuel Nana Antwi, which recently went viral on social media.
Nimako also accused certain government officials of supporting what he called an “aberration,” further complicating efforts to resolve the issue.
The family’s appeal aims to protect the integrity of Ahanta’s traditional leadership while addressing the growing tensions that threaten the unity and development of the region.
The Royal Anona family remains resolute in its stance that any attempt to undermine the rightful leadership of Otumfuo Baidoe Bonsoe XV must be rejected.
