Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku in accordance with recommendations contained in the mediation report led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the Bawku conflict.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, as part of government’s efforts to implement the peace roadmap outlined by the Asantehene to help restore calm to the troubled area.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior, the government said the action forms part of measures aimed at ensuring stability and advancing the peace process in Bawku.
The statement assured the public that Alhaji Seidu Abagre is safe and currently in the custody of security agencies.
The Ministry reaffirmed government’s commitment to the full implementation of the recommendations made by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whose mediation efforts have been central to resolving the longstanding conflict in the area.
It also appealed to residents of Bawku and its surrounding communities to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to maintain peace and security.
