Bolgatangta Technical University (BTU) has marked its 25th anniversary in a grand celebration, with the Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga, highlighting the crucial role of technical education in Ghana’s industrial drive.

Speaking at the silver jubilee event of BTU on Friday, he praised the Universitys contributions to producing skilled graduates and fostering entrepreneurship to address youth unemployment.

“Twenty-five years in the life of an institution is no mere achievement”, he stated, commending BTU’s resilience in a competitive higher education landscape.

The event brought together Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, traditional leaders, academics, and industry stakeholders.

The minister emphasized the relevance of the anniversary theme, “25 Years of Sustainable TVET Development: Journeying to Technological Advancement,” noting its alignmenet with national efforts to bridge skills gaps and meet global standards.

Established in 2000, BTU has distinguished itself as a leader in Technical and Vocational Education and Traning (TVET), equipping students with practical skills in engineering, agriculture, and technology. Akamugri acknowledged the achievements of BTU alumni, many of whom are making significant contributions locally and internationally.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening TVET infrastructure and policies while calling for greater collaboration between academia and industry.

“Collaboration among stakeholders is critical to ensuring our graduates remain competitive in an evolving technological world,” he said.

Deputy Education Minister Dr. Apaak, the Special Guest of Honour, echoed these sentiments, pledging sustained investment in technical universities as engines of workforce development.

He also committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry while prioritizing student welfare.

BTU Vice Chancellor Prof. Samuel Erasmus Alnaa recounted the university’s journey from modest beginnings to becoming a regional hub for innovation. As part of the anniversary celebrations, BTU unveiled plans for a new lecture hall and office complex with a capacity for 1,920.
