The government has announced a major expansion and refurbishment of Terminal 2 at Kotoka International Airport as part of ongoing efforts to reduce congestion and improve passenger experience.
In a Facebook post, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the project builds on modernization plans initiated in 2013 by the Ghana Airports Company Limited.

According to him, earlier phases of the plan saw the construction of Terminal 3, which has the capacity to handle five million passengers annually, as well as the expansion and refurbishment of the arrivals hall at Terminal 2.

He added that work is set to begin soon on a concourse that will link Terminals 2 and 3, while additional expansion of Terminal 2’s arrivals hall commenced in late 2024.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu noted that the scope of the project was further broadened in 2025 to include the renovation of the departure hall, which has not undergone any major upgrade in more than two decades, along with a redesign of the terminal’s frontage.

He explained that the expanded project aims to facilitate the relocation of some regional and international airlines from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 to ease congestion, particularly during peak travel periods when long queues are common.

Work on Terminal 2 is currently ongoing and is expected to be completed within the year.

The government says the upgraded terminal will significantly enhance operational efficiency and improve the overall passenger experience at the country’s main international gateway.
