Two men involved in a violent armed robbery in Atonsu Kuwait, Kumasi, have been convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison each by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed the conviction of Abass Kasim, 26, and Daniel Morro, also known as “China,” 25, for their roles in a robbery attack that took place in the early hours of July 31, 2021.
The two were part of a five-member gang that stormed a residence at around 2:30 a.m., armed with a pistol and cutlasses.
According to police, the gang shot the victim in the abdomen and inflicted multiple cutlass wounds before stealing several items, including, An iPhone 11 valued at GHS 5,500, a Samsung phone valued at GHS 500, two apple watches valued at GHS 3,000, two Michael Kors ladies’ handbags, an unspecified quantity of jewelry and USD 600 and an undisclosed amount of Ghana cedis.
Abass Kasim was arrested on August 12, 2021. During interrogation, he admitted to the crime and led officers to the arrest of Daniel Morro. Police also recovered a pistol used during the robbery.
The two suspects were first arraigned before the Kumasi Circuit Court 4 on August 19, 2021, where they pleaded not guilty and were remanded into custody.
After prolonged legal proceedings, they reappeared in court on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, where they were convicted and sentenced on multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, unlawful entry, abetment of crime, and possession of firearms without authority.
All sentences are to run concurrently, meaning both convicts will serve 15 years in prison. They have since been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, confirmed the development and assured the public of the police’s commitment to fighting violent crime.
