Two students from Twifo Praso Senior High School have been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the lynching of a spiritualist, Abdul Latif, who had accused one of them of stealing a mobile phone.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at around 8 p.m. in Twifo Praso, located in the Central Region.
The trouble began when a junior student’s mobile phone went missing. Seeking to identify the culprit, the students enlisted the services of Abdul Latif, a local spiritualist.
During the process, Latif accused one of the students of being responsible for the theft. In response, the accused student reportedly gathered a group of about 10 peers, who then ambushed and brutally assaulted Latif, leading to his death. The group then dragged his body into a nearby bush, covering it with weeds.
The police later discovered Latif’s body and transported it to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital Mortuary for autopsy. The incident sparked outrage among some local youths in Twifo Praso, who threatened to retaliate against the school.
However, the police, with reinforcement from the Central North Regional Police Command, were able to prevent further violence and maintain order in the area.
According to the deceased’s father, Yaw Nkrumah, this was not the first time his son had been attacked by students from the school. He recounted that Latif had been assaulted twice before but had managed to escape unharmed on both occasions. The fatal attack was the third and final incident.
