The University of Ghana has confirmed the approved fees and charges for the 2025/2026 academic year, following consultations with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Ministry of Education.
In a letter dated January 13, 2026, and addressed to the Director-General of GTEC, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, outlined decisions taken at a consultative meeting held on January 8, 2026, at the Ministry of Education.
According to the letter, the meeting chaired by the Deputy Minister for Education was attended by representatives of GTEC, the Chair of the University Council, management of the University, and student leaders.
The University confirmed that the agreed rate for the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) Development Levy remains GH¢200.
The letter also clarified issues surrounding the Telecel bundle fee, noting that it was agreed to be charged as originally stated at GH¢312. However, the University emphasised that the bundle is an optional service intended to enhance students’ communication and access to data.
The decision followed a survey conducted by students, which indicated that the package provides improved data services.
On the issue of the University’s 75th anniversary levy, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the matter was neither discussed nor decided upon at the meeting.
She explained that the levy, which supports the University’s legacy project the Student Experience Centre and other student services is not a new charge.
As a result, the University indicated that it was not clear on the basis of requests for the levy to be suspended for the current academic year.
The University of Ghana assured stakeholders of its commitment to continued engagement with GTEC and the Ministry of Education to ensure the smooth implementation of decisions reached during the consultative meeting.
The letter was signed by Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana.
