Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the possession of narcotic substances during a police swoop in parts of the Ashanti South Region, according to the Ghana Police Service.

The arrests were made on June 1, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation by officers from the Manso Adubia District Police.

The suspects Mohammed Iddrisu 47, Dickson Fosuhene 27, Emmanuel Asare 21 and Cletus Nyaaba 19, were apprehended in ghettos and residences for possessing substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other unlicensed drugs.

According to the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, the raid forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the peddling and abuse of narcotics, particularly among the youth.

Details of the arrests include: Mohammed Iddrisu was found with 550 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 82 sachets of 250 mg taramaking tablets, and cash amounting to ₵1,340.00.

Dickson Fosuhene and Emmanuel Asare  were jointly arrested with 120 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 150 sachets of 250 mg taramaking tablets, and ₵2,000.00 in cash.

Cletus Nyaaba also was arrested with 150 wraps of suspected Indian hemp.

A subsequent search of another suspect’s residence, identified only as “Thunder,” who reportedly absconded before police arrival, led to the discovery of additional contraband. Items retrieved from the location included;  28 boxes of 250 mg taramaking tablets, 54 boxes of 250 mg timiking tablets,  22 slabs and 374 wraps of compressed dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp and Cash amounting to €25,000.00.

DCOP Nyaaba explained that the suspects are currently being processed for court and assured the public of the Police Service’s commitment to fighting the proliferation of illegal drugs, which he noted contributes significantly to violent crimes, assault, and illegal mining activities.
