Wontumi can’t be traced- Nana B cries out
Share on WhatsApp

National Organizer for the opposition New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye, has stated that the whereabouts of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Chairman Wontumi, cannot be traced.

According to him, officials at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters informed them that Wontumi is not there.

Speaking to the media outside the EOCO headquarters, he said, “Now, what they are telling us is that Wontumi is not here. We have asked about his whereabouts, and they are unable to confirm.

“We’ve asked about the director; we have been told that the director-general is not here, that is Raymond Archer, and his deputies are not here,” he stressed.

Nana Boakye condemned the circumstances surrounding Wontumi’s detention, describing it as tantamount to kidnapping.

He emphasized “You invited Wontumi on Monday; he came, he came to the police CID. After interrogation, he was granted bail, and you told him to report the following day. Just when he was exiting, he was ambushed and picked up. I would say he’s been kidnapped. Now, we don’t even know his whereabouts.”

He expressed frustration that after 48 hours of detention, no official information about Wontumi’s status or location has been forthcoming.

“This is not rule of law. This is a rule of a certain person, certain man, somebody somewhere wanting to show that yes, we have power. Yes, we are in charge. He was picked up on Tuesday. As we speak, it is 48 hours. And they are telling us that they don’t know his whereabouts.”

Nana Boakye called on the President, John Dramani Mahama to uphold fairness and questioned whether the current situation reflects the democratic values Ghana stands for.

He remarked “Is this a certain political show of bravado? We are a nation of rules, laws. What is happening here? And I keep saying, President Mahama, what is happening here? President Mahama, what is happening in this country?”

“Look, we demand that there should be fairness in all of this. Fairness in all of this,” he added.
