In the wake of a disturbing daylight armed robbery in Adabraka, Accra, Member of Parliament Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings visited the scene on Saturday to assess the situation and address the community’s concerns.
The brazen incident, involving heavily armed assailants, has left the neighborhood shaken and raised fresh concerns about security in the area.
The robbery took place on a busy street during school hours, sparking fear among parents and residents who worry about their children’s safety.
Witnesses reported that armed men were seen wielding high-powered firearms, discharging stray bullets as they fled the scene.
Several homes and properties narrowly escaped damage, and bystanders, including children, were left traumatized.
“It is especially disturbing because of the type of weapons used and the fact that it happened in broad daylight. The stray bullets could have hit anyone,” Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings said. “This incident has created a sense of fear in a community that generally does not identify with this level of violence.”
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Interior, expressed her deep concern for residents’ safety, stating that she plans to raise the matter with her colleagues in Parliament and collaborate with local authorities to enhance security measures. “We must do everything we can to prevent this from happening again. No one should live in fear in their own community,” she added.
The MP reassured the public that she would advocate for stronger security measures, including increased police presence in vulnerable areas like Adabraka. Her visit, which included discussions with community leaders and residents, aimed to provide solace and underscore her commitment to addressing the safety concerns that have left many feeling vulnerable.
This incident is part of a troubling trend of rising violent crimes in Accra, which has seen a series of armed robberies in recent months. Local authorities are currently investigating the Adabraka robbery, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
