15 Eastern regional NPP
Fifteen out of the 23 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Eastern Region have openly declared their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) preferred candidate to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during Dr. Bawumia’s regional tour, with his first stop at Nkawkaw.
The 15 MPs include Ida Adwoa Asiedu (Ayensuano), Korkor Asante (Atiwa West), Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah (Ofoase Ayirebi), Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam Adoagyiri), Sammi Awuku (Akuapem North), Kofi Okyere Baafi (New Juaben South), Akwasi Acquah (Oda), Kingsley Agyemang (Abuakwa South), Nana Ampaw Addo-Frempong (Abuakwa North), (Fanteakwa North), (Fanteakwa South), Frank Asiedu Bekoe (Suhum), Charles Asuako Owiredu (Abirem) and Kingsley Ahenkora Marfo (Achiase).
Addressing the media on behalf of his colleagues, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, the MP for Achiase, explained that the decision was taken after careful consideration of Bawumia’s track record and leadership qualities.
According to the MPs, Dr. Bawumia’s tenure as Vice President positioned him as the most “impactful” in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, making him the party’s strongest bet to reclaim and consolidate power in 2028.
They argued that his role in shaping economic policy, spearheading digitalization, and championing inclusive governance had endeared him to a wide spectrum of Ghanaians.
Mr. Marfo emphasized that the caucus of 15 MPs—which represents the majority of the NPP’s 23 lawmakers from the Eastern Region—believes Dr. Bawumia has been “well marketed” over the years.
“We are clear in our minds that Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate to lead us to victory in the 2028 elections. Politically and policy-wise, he is unmatched,” he said.
