About 3,425 young people across the Ashanti Region have completed various skills training programmes under the National Youth Authority’s (NYA) six-month Youth Apprenticeship Skills Training Programme.
The programme, which covers 19 skill areas, is aimed at equipping unemployed young people with practical skills to enable them to become economically independent.
The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the NYA has handed over hundreds of working tools to district directors for onward distribution to beneficiaries who completed the training.
The beneficiaries were trained in various vocational skills, including hairdressing, dressmaking, shoemaking and other artisanal trades.
The six-month training is designed to provide participants with practical skills and support them in establishing their own businesses and livelihoods.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the NYA, Seth Atanga, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment when they receive them.
He further disclosed that applicants who failed to complete the six-month training programme would not qualify to receive the starter packs.
According to him, the requirement is intended to ensure that the equipment is given to participants who successfully completed the training and are prepared to put the skills acquired into practice.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) at Asante Juaben, Abdul Lazie, has also urged beneficiaries to use the starter packs responsibly.
He said proper use of the equipment would help the beneficiaries establish sustainable livelihoods while contributing to the government’s objective of creating employment opportunities for young people.
The NYA says the distribution of the working tools is expected to support beneficiaries as they transition from training into self-employment.
