The management of the 37 Military Hospital has praised the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for major improvements in claims processing and timely reimbursement, citing the absence of outstanding claims at the facility.
The commendation was made during a courtesy call by the hospital’s management team to the NHIA Head Office in Accra.
Speaking during the visit, the Acting Deputy Chief of Staff Medical and Commander of the 37 Military Hospital, Brigadier General Evelyn Vivian Abraham-Kwabiah, said the hospital was formally expressing its appreciation for the Authority’s improved efficiency.
“We are very happy because we have seen a remarkable improvement in the claims processing and reimbursement. Our finance department currently does not have any outstanding claims payments,” she said.
Responding, NHIA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, welcomed the feedback and attributed the progress to strong leadership, government backing and recent reforms within the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
“We are grateful that you have noticed the change. This progress is due to leadership, vision, and the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Fund, which brought in about GH¢3.4 billion more last year,” Dr. Bampoe stated.
He said the reforms have strengthened public confidence in the NHIS, resulting in increased enrollment nationwide.
“For the first time in our history, by the end of 2025, about 22.3 million people had registered, representing 66 percent of active members,” he noted.
Dr. Bampoe added that the NHIA is aligning its operations with the President’s vision of comprehensive healthcare delivery, integrating Free Primary Healthcare, the NHIS and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
The NHIA’s Deputy Chief Executive for Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Raphael Segkpeb, described the hospital’s feedback as a strong endorsement of the Authority’s core mandate.
“Claims payment is at the core of what we do, and it is refreshing to hear that providers are experiencing a positive change. We expect that prompt payments will translate into better service delivery for NHIS cardholders,” he said.
Deputy Chief Executive for Finance and Investment, Ms. Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to timely reimbursements, disclosing that payments are sometimes made multiple times within a single month.
“There are times we reimburse claims up to three times within a month,” she said.
Also speaking, Acting Director of the Operations Directorate, Mrs. Musah Mariam Alhassan, urged the 37 Military Hospital to support ongoing reforms, stressing that collaboration with healthcare providers is critical to sustaining the gains made.
Deputy Director of the Accra Claims Processing Centre, Ms. Oforiwaa Portuphy, said the acknowledgment was evidence that the efforts of claims staff were producing tangible results.
“We are happy that the hard work toward prompt claims payment is being felt on the ground and acknowledged,” she said.
The visit underscored growing cooperation between the NHIA and healthcare providers aimed at strengthening Ghana’s health insurance system and improving service delivery. The engagement was moderated by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah.
