Commuters traveling from Ejisu Besiase to Tech Junction through Suame to Buoho in Kumasi will soon enjoy improved visibility, thanks to a government intervention aimed at repairing and maintaining all broken streetlights along the stretch.
The Ghana Highway Authority, under the Ministry of Roads and Highways, has signed a two-year contract with Prefos Limited to carry out the project.

The initiative, which covers the Ejisu Besiase to KNUST and Suame to Buoho routes, was announced by Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, during his visit to Prefos Limited, the company responsible for maintaining streetlights in the region.
As part of the government’s commitment to improving street lighting in Kumasi, Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, visited Prefos Limited’s operations center to assess their preparations for the project.

During the visit, staff and management were seen actively preparing streetlight bulbs and electric cables in readiness for the installation process.
Dr. Amoakohene commended Prefos Limited for its ongoing efforts in ensuring well-lit streets across the country.

He also expressed appreciation to the Minister of Roads and Highways for responding swiftly to concerns about the poor state of streetlights in some areas of the region just threedays the issue came to his attention.

The minister raised concerns over the growing issue of cable theft, which has significantly hindered efforts to maintain streetlights.
He issued a strong warning to those involved in cable theft, stating that law enforcement agencies are on high alert to address the issue.
“ Few days ago thieves broke down a whole transformer at Adum and took away cables in the transformer. Thanks to the security we were able to track them and arrested them for prosecution. We are not just going to fix the street lights we are going to protect them. Therefore, I’m calling for the public support to enable us keeps the light on during night hours’’ Dr. Amoakohene said.

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that road safety remains a top priority for the government. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all sectors of society benefit from infrastructure projects like this.
On their part, management of Prefos Limited called for public support to ensure the smooth execution of the project.

“ we have notice that when we fix the light people break the poles down to steal the coper cable in it therefore, we are change the coper to led. We are therefore calling on the general public to be the keepers of the streets light’’
With this initiative set in motion, residents and commuters can expect enhanced visibility and security along the designated roads.
