Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has opened a clear lead in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential race, according to the latest Phase Three voter intention survey released by Sanity Africa ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The poll places the former Assin Central MP at 52.0 per cent support among delegates, ahead of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who follows with 40.0 per cent.
The survey was conducted between October 2025 and January 2026, drawing on a weighted sample of 15,000 delegates across all 276 constituencies, and reflects voting intentions within the expanded delegate album of about 211,000 voters, including former appointees and past party executives. Sanity Africa says the results carry a 99 per cent confidence level with a ±5 per cent margin of error.
Other aspirants trail significantly. Dr Bryan Acheampong secured 7.0 per cent, while Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum polled 0.7 per cent, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong recorded 0.3 per cent. Compared with the Phase Two poll in October, Agyapong saw a marginal dip of 1.1 percentage points, Bawumia improved by 1.0 points, and Acheampong posted the strongest growth with a 2.0-point increase.
Sanity Africa describes the contest as “fluid,” noting that delegate preferences could still shift in the closing weeks due to campaign messaging, endorsements, and regional mobilisation. While the findings position Ken Agyapong as the clear frontrunner, the organisation cautions that late momentum from rivals could tighten the race.
Sanity Africa, a Pan-African civil society organisation focused on governance and citizen-led processes, has previously drawn attention for the accuracy of its electoral projections, including its correct prediction of the winner of the Akwatia parliamentary by-election.
