Prempeh College has renewed calls for government to settle an outstanding GH¢1,053,230 compensation for portions of its land used for the construction of the Sofoline Interchange in Kumasi.
The issue came up at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting in Kumasi on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, where the school’s management appeared to respond to audit infractions flagged in the Auditor-General’s report.
Headmaster of Prempeh College, Very Rev. Louis Asare, told the Committee that although compensation for the land was pledged in 2013, the payment has still not been made more than a decade later.
He explained that the school has made repeated attempts to secure the funds, writing at least four formal letters to key stakeholders, including the project consultant Value Properties and the Department of Urban Roads, but without success.
According to him, the only feedback received over the years has been verbal assurances, with no actual disbursement of funds.
The situation, he noted, has delayed planned development projects at the institution, which continues to await resolution.
Responding to the matter, the Regional Director of Education, Dr. William Kwame Amankrah, assured the Committee that the issue would be escalated to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, for urgent attention and possible resolution.
A member of the Committee and MP for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Frank Yeboah, who is also an alumnus of the school, urged authorities to prioritise the payment to support the school’s development agenda.
“Education Director, do something about it to make sure that Prempeh College gets its fair share,” he appealed.
