The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has constituted a number of Standing and Sector Committees as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s internal structures and reposition it for effective political organization and national governance.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee and National Council held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, according to a statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.

The statement said the Standing Committees were constituted pursuant to Article 10(2)(6) of the NPP Constitution, while the Sector Committees were formed in accordance with Articles 10(3)(8) and 14(5).

Among the Standing Committees constituted are the Finance Committee, Electoral Affairs Committee, Disciplinary Committee, Policy Committee, Organizational Committee, Research Committee and Communications Committee.

Former Ghana National Gas Company Board Chairman Fred Oware was named Chairman of the Finance Committee, with Dr. Charles Dwamena serving as Secretary. Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was appointed Chairman of the Policy Committee, while Nana Akomea chairs the Communications Committee.

The party also constituted a Political Strategy Committee, appointing former National Chairman Peter Mac Manu as Chairperson.

In addition to the Standing Committees, the NPP announced the formation of several Sector Committees covering key areas including Finance and Economy, Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Foreign Policy and Diaspora, Food and Agriculture, Education, Health, Energy, Roads, Transport, Youth Development and Employment.

Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam and Dr. Steve Opata were named Co-Chairs of the Finance and Economy Committee, while former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Dr. Prince Hamid Armah were appointed Co-Chairs of the Education Committee.

The Security, Intelligence and Defence Committee will be co-chaired by Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, both Members of Parliament.

According to the statement, the committees are expected to provide expert guidance and leadership across various sectors and thematic areas to support the party’s strategic direction.

“The composition of these Standing and Sector Committees forms part of the Party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its internal structures, deepen policy development, enhance stakeholder engagement, and reposition the Party for effective political organization and national governance,” the statement noted.

The NPP congratulated all appointed chairpersons, co-chairs, secretaries, spokespersons and members, expressing confidence in their ability to discharge their responsibilities diligently in the interest of the party and the country.
