Three invigilators in the Ashanti Region have been arrested and subsequently granted bail over their alleged involvement in examination malpractices during the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The suspects were picked up at different examination centres, including Twedie and Mampong, following tip-offs that led to their arrest.
According to the Ashanti Regional Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Ernest Akoto Yeboah, the invigilators were allegedly caught with photocopied answers and images of examination questions on their mobile phones. In some instances, candidates were also found with similar unauthorised materials.
Mr. Yeboah expressed grave concern about the situation, warning that such breaches threaten the credibility of the examination process.
“We are preparing our report on those cases, and we have forwarded it to Accra. The committee in Accra will sit on the report and decide on what to do; ours is just to submit the report. As to how it will happen next year, we will talk about it after the exams,” he stated.
WAEC is expected to take further action once the report is reviewed by its headquarters.
