The Asantehene and Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on the government to fast-track the completion of the university’s teaching hospital, emphasizing its strategic importance to healthcare and medical education in Ghana.

Addressing Vice President Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang during her visit to the Manhyia Palace on June 28, 2025, Otumfuo expressed concern over the delayed completion of the facility, despite significant progress made so far.

“My KNUST teaching hospital is still not completed even though there has been tremendous progress, and I’m passionate about this project because of the unique role it is meant to play,” he stated.

He noted that once operational, the teaching hospital would ease the burden on the over-stretched Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and serve as a critical training ground for KNUST’s medical and allied health students.

The Asantehene urged the Vice President to advocate for the project at the highest level of government, describing it as “essential” to the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

In response, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang assured the Asantehene of her commitment to the cause.

“That cannot be more important, and I want to assure you that I will take this concern to the President. I have no doubt he will take the necessary action,” she said.

The KNUST Teaching Hospital, when completed, is expected to significantly enhance health service delivery and medical education in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
