The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ARCC) has announced the formation of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the operations of the Kumasi City Market (Kejetia).
The decision follows multiple petitions from traders and stakeholders regarding concerns over market management.
In an official statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the council cited issues related to sanitation, utility bills, and other general services as key discussion points in meetings with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the market’s management.
The statement further indicates that the current management of the Kumasi City Market (KCM) is to step aside to allow for investigations into the allegations against them.
The IMC’s formation aims to facilitate this investigation and ensure transparency in market administration.
The three-member Interim Management Committee consists of Prince Ofori Atta – Chairman, Amoah Prince Nyarko Operations Manager and Nana Prempeh Amankwaa in charge of the market Security.
The Minister directed the KCM management to provide all necessary documents to assist the committee in carrying out its mandate effectively.
This decision is expected to bring stability and improved governance to the Kumasi City Market, ensuring that the concerns of traders and stakeholders are addressed.
