The Bank of Ghana has introduced the Ghana Gold Coin, made from locally sourced dowry gold refined to 99.99% purity.
Dr. Ernest Addison, the central bank’s governor, announced that the coin, issued and guaranteed by the Bank of Ghana, will come in three denominations: one ounce, half ounce, and quarter ounce, designed to meet diverse investment demands.
According to Dr. Addison, the gold coin is part of the central bank’s strategy to absorb excess liquidity in the banking sector, complementing existing tools like Bank of Ghana bills and overnight deposits.
The coin will be available in commercial banks within two weeks, with prices set to be published on the Bank of Ghana’s official platforms.
