The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced plans to implement reforms aimed at preventing a recurrence of the controversies that marred the AFCON 2025 final.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe said the proposed measures will be partly submitted to the General Assembly for approval, while others will be enforced directly by the Executive Council.
“We have already implemented some of the changes and resolutions to ensure that what happened on the final day does not happen again,” Motsepe said.
He explained that while certain reforms require broader approval, others are already being executed through CAF’s Executive Committee.
Speaking during a media briefing on a working visit to Morocco, Motsepe noted that the reform process has been supported by FIFA, particularly in identifying regulatory gaps.
“It is interesting when legal experts point out that some of these issues were not anticipated in the rules. These are top-level FIFA lawyers, and we have learned lessons on how we could have handled certain situations better,” he said.
Motsepe’s visit to Morocco follows a similar trip to Senegal earlier in the week.
Meanwhile, Senegal has filed a case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport challenging CAF’s decision to strip the country of the AFCON 2025 title.
