The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Police Headquarters in Accra for questioning.
His appearance on Monday, May 26, 2025, comes days after a failed attempt by a joint team of National Security operatives and police officers to arrest him at his residence on Friday, May 23.
Chairman Wontumi was accompanied by his legal counsel, former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, and former Asante-Akim North MP, Andy Appiah-Kubi.
While the Ghana Police Service has not released details on the nature of the probe, sources suggest it may be connected to ongoing investigations into recent political events.
Wontumi’s legal team is expected to address the media following their engagement with CID officials.
The situation has drawn significant public attention after videos circulated online showing heavily armed personnel surrounding Wontumi’s home. Supporters have described the attempted arrest as a politically motivated effort to intimidate the vocal party figure.
