Clearing of the right of way for the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway is set to begin next week in the Ashanti Region, Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene has announced.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Amoakohene said the exercise will commence on Monday and cover an 80-kilometre stretch of land as part of preparations for the construction of the major highway project.
The announcement follows a meeting between a government delegation and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace, where traditional authorities were briefed on the project and asked to support its implementation.
The delegation was led by Dr. Amoakohene and included the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, as well as Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi and other officials.
Government is seeking cooperation from chiefs and affected communities ahead of the clearance exercise, which is expected to impact farmlands and some illegal mining sites along the route.
The Accra–Kumasi Expressway, a flagship infrastructure project, is designed as a six-lane highway to improve connectivity between the two major cities and significantly reduce travel time.
Officials say the clearing phase marks a critical step toward the commencement of full construction works on the expressway.
