Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Victor Emmanuel Smith, has officially confirmed the detention of the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in the U.S.

In a press statement released on Thursday , January 15, 2026, and signed by the Ambassador under the headline “Arrest and Detention of Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu”, the diplomat disclosed that the former government appointee was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals earlier this month.
“I can today confirm that Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is being detained at the Nevada Southern Detention Center,” Ambassador Smith stated.
According to the statement, U.S. Marshals effected the arrest of Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu on January 6, 2026, following an extradition request submitted by Ghanaian authorities in July 2024.
The former MASLOC CEO has since remained in U.S. custody pending court proceedings.
“I am reliably informed that acting on an extradition request sent to the US Authorities sometime in July 2024, US Marshals arrested Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu and placed her in detention to await her day in court,” the statement added.
Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu, who served under the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama, has been on Ghana’s wanted list after being convicted in absentia in 2024 for causing financial loss to the state.
Her extradition is expected to pave the way for further legal processes in Ghana in connection with the offences for which she was sentenced.
Ghana’s embassy in Washington, D.C., has pledged to monitor developments surrounding the case closely and to provide updates as necessary.
