The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has been honoured by the Ashanti Regional Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for his leadership and reform-driven management of the Authority under President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda.
The recognition was conferred at the Bureau’s End-of-Year Communication Retreat held in Kumasi on January 10, 2026, bringing together senior party officials, communication experts and public sector leaders to review performance across key sectors of the economy.
Dr. Bampoe, who marked one year in office in 2026, was recognised for stabilising the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), particularly his achievement of ensuring that all NHIA-accredited hospitals are fully paid, with no arrears outstanding, since his appointment in 2025.
Also honoured at the event was the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The retreat was attended by high-profile figures including the CEO of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Augustus Nana Kwame Andrews, alongside other party executives and stakeholders.
Dr. Bampoe, who was unable to attend, was represented by the Head of Communication at the NHIA, Faustina Dery, who received the honour on his behalf.
Delivering his message, Ms. Dery expressed the CEO’s gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a strong validation of the ongoing institutional reforms at the NHIA. She outlined major milestones under his leadership, notably the prompt payment of claims to health facilities and an intensified crackdown on illegal co-payment practices that have historically undermined public confidence in the Scheme.
She noted that the reforms have significantly improved service delivery, strengthened accountability, and protected subscribers from unauthorised charges.
“The focus of the current administration of the NHIA has been to restore trust in the Scheme through timely claims payment, strict enforcement against co-payment, and broader system reforms that put the patient first,” she said.
Ms. Dery further disclosed that the Authority would roll out additional reforms in 2026 and beyond, with a strong focus on operational efficiency, technology-driven systems and the long-term sustainability of the NHIS.
Organisers of the retreat said the honour reflects the growing impact of decisive leadership at the NHIA and underscores the critical role of effective governance and communication in rebuilding public institutions under the Reset Agenda.
