Ike Lord Ennu, the former Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Mfantseman Municipal Assembly has announced clarified that the purported endorsement of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) is misleading.
According to Lord Ennu, it was only a small group of individuals who expressed support, not the entire body of former MMDCEs.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen Programme monitored by Kumasimail, Lord Ennu recounted that Dr. Bawumia had invited a group of about 220 former MMDCEs to inform them of his intention to contest in the upcoming presidential primaries.
“The former Vice President invited us to let us know he will contest in the upcoming elections and to appeal for our support based on the good work he has done,” he explained.
However, Lord Ennu emphasized that this meeting did not amount to an endorsement.
“He spoke with us very well, but after the engagement, there was no endorsement. Nobody endorsed the former Vice President,” he stated firmly.
He added that Dr. Bawumia encouraged them to consider supporting him, but no formal backing was given.
Addressing the existence of the so-called “Forum of MMDCEs for Bawumia,” Lord Ennu expressed confusion and skepticism.
“Many of us don’t even know about this Forum. We only know of former MMDCEs as a group, not this ‘Forum’,” he said.
He further challenged claims made during a press conference by the Forum, which stated that all 220 former MMDCEs had declared support for Dr. Bawumia.
“That is not true. Only a section of us claim to be part of this Forum. The invitation was extended to all former MMDCEs, not just the Forum,” Lord Ennu clarified.
He disputed the assertion that 200 out of the 220 former MMDCEs support Dr. Bawumia, revealing that over 120 members of their platform oppose the Forum’s actions.
“How can they say only 20 people are not members of the Forum when more than 120 of us disagree with what the Forum did?” he questioned.
Lord Ennu concluded by stating that the Forum’s claimed membership of 200 is exaggerated.
“In our platform, former MMDCEs platform those of us who feel implicated by the Forum’s actions number more than 150. The claim of 200 members is simply not true,” he asserted
