Former NSB Director-General Kwabena Adu Boahen has claimed that in December 2024, he authorized a payment exceeding GHS 5 million to Joyce Bawa Mogtari, special aide to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama.
This disclosure was made in a letter addressed to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), titled “Special Operations Expenditure Summary.”
According to Adu Boahen, the total amount released was GHS 5,135,000.
The payment was described as covering “Election Special Ops – Logistics,” specifically for the procurement of vehicles including a 2024 Nissan Patrol Platinum, a 2024 Nissan Patrol Titanium, and a 2022 Land Cruiser GXR.
Adu Boahen justified the expenditure in his letter by citing the need to ensure “Stability of Nation / National Cohesion / Political Impartiality” during the election period.
This revelation comes amid ongoing investigations into Adu Boahen’s financial conduct during his tenure as NSB Director-General.
He is currently facing allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of state funds, including a separate case involving a $7 million cyber defense contract.
Adu Boahen and his wife have been arrested and are under stringent bail conditions, with the courts restricting their movements and requiring regular reporting to EOCO.
The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has maintained that President Mahama is fully informed about the case and that all charges are supported by documentary evidence.
