The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned heads of Senior High and Technical Schools against the unauthorized registration of students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), warning that offenders will face severe sanctions.
In a statement issued on Thursday, GES management said it had observed that some school heads and officials were illegally registering Form Two students and private candidates for the WASSCE, often in exchange for fees.
According to the Service, only Form Three students whose academic records and progression from Year One to Year Three are verifiable in a school’s database are eligible to be registered by heads of schools.
“Management wishes to state unequivocally that a Head of School is authorised to register only Form Three students,” the statement said, adding that the registration of Form Two students or private candidates by any school official is strictly prohibited.
GES described the practice as misconduct and an abuse of office, noting that any head or school official found engaging in such unauthorized registrations, including charging money for the service, would be held accountable.
“All heads and school officials are hereby cautioned that the breach of this directive will attract severe sanctions in accordance with GES and WAEC regulations, without exception,” the statement warned.
The statement, dated January 8, 2026, was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service.
The directive comes amid ongoing preparations for the 2026 WASSCE and is intended to ensure the integrity of the examination process and compliance with regulations set by both GES and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
