The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced the reopening of the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., following a period of suspension and administrative restructuring.
The Embassy is scheduled to resume operations on Thursday, May 29, 2025, according to a press release issued on Tuesday, May 27.
The reopening comes after the recall of Home-Based Staff and the suspension of Local Staff due to what the Ministry described as “unfortunate circumstances”.
These events triggered a full-scale review of the Embassy’s operations, prompting the deployment of a team of seasoned diplomats to implement comprehensive structural reforms.
The team, led by a senior diplomat from the Ministry, has been tasked with overseeing a total systems overhaul, restoring operational integrity, and reconfiguring internal processes.
An Information Technology (IT) team has also been engaged to revamp the Embassy’s digital infrastructure, including its website and payment platforms.
The objective is to eliminate all unauthorized and unofficial links previously associated with the Embassy’s IT systems.
“The Embassy is set to reopen on Thursday, 29th May, 2025. We assure that measures have been put in place to clear the backlog. Any inconvenience resulting from our necessary interventions is deeply regretted,” the statement read.

The Ministry also confirmed that the issues that led to the Embassy’s temporary closure have been referred to the Auditor-General and the Attorney-General of Ghana for further investigation and appropriate sanctions.
