The Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, has clarified that the government is yet to secure full funding for the dualization of the Santasi Roundabout to Top Martins road project, despite ongoing works on the stretch.
Speaking in an interview with Kojo Marfo on the DayBreak Morning Show on Fakye TV, Mr. Agyeman Boadi explained that the current phase of the project is being funded solely by the Government of Ghana.
“What we’re doing now is part of the Government of Ghana’s component. The external funding hasn’t been secured yet,” he said.
“Even as we speak, we have undertaken many activities that serve as preconditions to access the main funding,” he added.
He noted that the ongoing works are preliminary steps required before international financial support can be released. According to him, these efforts follow the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s earlier announcement on social media about the government’s commitment to the project.
When asked about the source of funding for the recent developments along the road, the KMA boss responded,
“The work you see going on is from Ghana government resources. The external support will come later to complement what has already started.”
Mr. Agyeman Boadi further outlined some of the key milestones that must be completed before the funding is finalized.
“The Ghana government must complete exercises like compensation for affected persons and relocation of residents along the project stretch,” he explained. “These are part of the obligations we need to fulfill before the partners release their support.”
He also revealed that a formal agreement was signed in 2025 between the Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson, and the Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, following President John Dramani Mahama’s visit to Japan, a trip that paved the way for the project’s financing arrangements.
“President Mahama’s discussions in Japan set the stage for this agreement,” Mr. Agyeman Boadi said.
“We are hopeful that by April this year, the funding arrangements will be completed, so work can continue from the Ahodwo Roundabout by May or June.”
